The key to a successful EU innovation policy

Dear EU Commissioner Antonio Tajani,

Already in 2005 my idea received big aplauds from an international (16 countries) workshop, arranged in Brussels by the New Working Environments office of the Commission.

After that Hungary and Spain have tried to make a proposal on it’s ground, and in 2006 I almost succeeded in aking it the theme of IST2006, the information society conference of the Finnish presidency.

In 2005 I stopped my 35 old communications consulting company “Takapiru” and started “Personal EU United Brains” – just to concentrate in 2the name of the game”.

Please try to forget my bad English and understand the kernel of my initiative:

1. The ground of the EU innovation policy/strategy must be individuals, because life can be lead only on personal level.

2. The union’s success requires very wide and large scale union-wide team work between citizens from different EU countries.

3. The Commission itself is an essential, excellent and recommendable example of the needed union-wide person collaboration.

4. The commission model can be multiplied to every citizens in the union, with simple and inspiring help of information technology.

5. A “Personal EU TeamFinder (Placed inside Facebook, LinkedIn, European Network of Living Labs and the union’s own portal) would give every citizen an easy opportunity “by one button” to find around her/him other individuals with most similar challenges as their, one person from up to each EU country.

6. This should be a free opportunity for all EU citizens. Very soon we could have millions of such Personal EU Teams (covering 10-27 countries).

7. Every Personal EU Team is valuable for the members themselves, to the entire union and to eveything there between, because they bring together ideas and solutions from different parts of the rich European culture environment – and create new even better working solutions from the rich nuances of that strong basis.

8. Personal EU Teams could be one essential entrepreneural step towards the union as “the world’s most advanced innovation society”. today there are some 25 million companies in the union, employing some 125 million citizens. Only a very small percentage of this is union-wide business. In a few years a “Personal EU TeamFinder” could allow the birth of many millions of very union-wide “business seeds” – and complete the existing union-wide organizations with a very collaborative new organi(c)zation level.

9. A “Personal EU era” would be more than union-wide teams, because every team could easily be global.

10. The Personal EU concept should be an essential kernel of the coming EU innovation policy/strategy.

11. The Commission can in practise show the way to the solution – by using 20-40 000 € to make the missing “Personal EU TeamFinder” come true. I’m ready to offer the entire Personal EU concept and its domains to the Commission – where it would be a new innovative additive to every citizen’s union-wide rights and an inspiring challenge for everyone.

How to create the union’s missing organi(c)zation level

Next week will be challenging.

For me, and for You, too – if you like. And I hope so.

1.

On Monday morning February 15th between 08.50 and 10:50 AM (UTC+2) I'll make my presentation "EU is YOU – How to create the union's missing organi(c)zation level" on the YLE Areena channel  http://areena.yle.fi/live .

My decision was to do it in English. Even if I speak and write (as you see) very "bad" English.

The message, however is directed to all 500 million citizens of the European union – and the channel can bee seen online globally! And in Finnish just 10 % of the essential people could see and hear it.

On Friday February 19th i have a meeting at the Finnish Standards Association SFS – and try to bring the Personal EU vision in spotlight as a EU standard candidate. The union seeks new innovative and inspiring standardizing areas, and "the missing organi(c)zation level" sure is worth discussing in this connection. Four high class ITC friends of mine will participate and look at the concept from different views. Fantastic test anyway.

Your Year?

More new friends than ever. Especially Facebook frieds. That’s what happened to most of us last year.

Every friend can be important, every comment can be essential. You know that they care when they are interactive.

The truth however is that 90 % of the friends keep quiet. They just are – but do not do anything with you or for you.

Just like you with and for 90 % of your friends.

The new year could maybe bring some new way to develop friendship.

I think about the European union and uniqie union-wide friend teams.

Don’t hide your flag any more

The European union is now taking the first steps of a new more meaningful era.

More important than a president of the council is that the Lisbon strategy sets big challenges to a citizen-centric development.

That means that YOU are the center point of this brand new era.

And why not? 

You already are a citizen of the entire union (and your home country).

You already have common borders with the rest of the union – and common money is most of the EU countries.

50% of the law’s already come from the union level and are common for all us 500 million citizens.

But how to make the union idea personal?

How to grow your resources to union-level without meeting all its bureaucracy?

Your union-wide, challenge-high and life-long idea is now closer to it’s cometrue than ever.

Please be curious, see it’s visions, read it’s challenges, participate it’s groups!

Especially our Facebook group is inspiring: already people from 50 countries (and EU has just 27).

Together we can easily make an essential Personal EU TeamFinder come true.

Without it there is almost impossible to find “someone like you” from up to each EU country – to be Your unique team.

All great ideas are finally very simple – so is this one.

You just have to find its value to you, personally.

I’m speaking of a new You-centric era that makes the present better.

Social Change Leadership

It’s not easy to drive at high speed into fog.
That’s a little how I felt when participating the high class workshop VisionEraNet in Helsinki.
In my mind the road (and partially the route because there is not road on every stint) to the happy European future is quite clear – no fog, just taking people there, a big amounbt of them.

You are prepared to hear excellent collaboration plans and the human being (citizen, end-user, customer, You, me) in the centre of the picture, in the centre of the globe.

But that was not exactly what happened: The presentations were somehow complicated, just as the innovation development situations in different countries. Some brilliant details and much of dust or boxes, boxes, boxes leading nowhere.

The handouts were in advance in the internet and on memory sticks for all almost 100 participants. Great!

But:
No network discussion fora for pre-questions to the speakers.
No list of partipants and their emails on the webpage.
No webcasting for allowing the participants to invite their networks to participate from long distance and make online comments and fresh questionsto get online answers.
And no real workshop, just Speeches, panel, questions from the audience and some talking with food in the mouth.

I know that organizations arranging conferences work in the meantimes too. The Organization boxes have their official ways to say and hear.

CHANGE however is something that needs wide common inspiration and new chainreactions from everyone to everyone – even outside the boxes, conference room and present organisation structures.

In this conference I missed the spirit of social change, the interested and inspiring interactivity from everybody to everybody, the really looking forward and daring to drive into the fog, knowing that the route map already exists in each of us and nowhere else.

Managing social change requires understanding of the fact that the change always begins NOW ONLINE, it is breathing in and out from all to all.

What I together with my network collague tried to do was to bring the inspiring online atmosphere to the box:
I made 27 online webcasts (almost 5 hours, I think) to the internet with my E90 mobile phone, we saw “global village people” login and make comments – and we wrote friendly feedbacks.
I made several comments to the presentations and mostly felt that others behaved a little like robots with the program section “human touch” turned off.

As a summary I, however, have to be happy and believe that just this kind of unstandard behavior gives the feeling of change and makes people (even if they don’t say or show it) come out of their personal traditioal hierarchy boxes.

And (that’s why like to believe) never go back there.
It doesn’t mean revolution. It just means looking at everything that you really are and making a new more natural and inspiring personal 24/7 world of it.

Transporting meanings over borders

Words, pictures or voices don’t mean anything. They just transport meanings.

That’s why seeing or hearing aren’t the same as understanding.

And even that isn’t enough for accepting.

And that’s not everything for trusting.

People should be able to trust eachothers, not just nationally but internationally, globally.

We all are in the same boat named “Friendship” – or at least should be.

Because this is our only place to live – and it doesn’t understand too many human meanings.

I want a web life steering map

What’s the best online visualization describing Your Social Network Traffic? Or is there any?

TouchGraph by Google shows visually all connections to and from Your website.  On Facebook You can find  a FriendWheel and other applications illustrating all Your friends and all their connections to Your other friends, in one interactive picture.

But what I’ve not found and what I need more than those partial solutions is a map showing as stations all my network destinations – and describing as thinner or thicker piles all traffic (my and other) between those stations (LinkedIn, Facebook, ENoLL, Twitter, Brightkite, Qaiku, Wiziq, Picasa, MySpace, YouTube, WordPress, Blogger, homepage… whatever).

And this map should be clickable to take me straight to any station on the map.

Do I have too big wishes? I don’t think so. Because that service would be the new kind homepage for a big part of internet users – and many feed applications already almost have the package ready as text stream.

So, when You find what I’m missing, please let me know. I promise not to keep it as a secret.

Let’s help our Union

When the world is in trouble, we are too. If we do not do anything to help it, who does?

Today’s problems are bigger than just national. It means that we have to make things internationally. As Europeans we have a good level: the European union.

Now everybody: Let’s start own personal European unions – teams consisting of “someone like me” from up to each EU country. Let’s start millions of such individual union-wide person teams.

To make able to do that, let’s create a “Personal EU27 Team Finder” first. Maybe you are the one who could develop it. Or maybe you just know the potential creator. Don’t be shy now. Speak up!

Searching? Finding?

You get new friends through all your life, from school, work, hobby, family… You loose a big part of them during years, some essential, too. And you get friends who seem to be fully unwanted.

You need friends, a nice team of stimulating people for making your and their life more meaning. People who don’t mean anything to you – do you need them at all?

Living is connecting people. But before that you have to collect them, keep them and find their role in your life. Your challenges are growing all time, and that’s why you maybe think it’s important to collect people for future challenges, too. If some people belong to your circles wit hout a role, it’s not dangerous if they don’t harm you and your real friends? You never know who of them will stand up and be very essential to you. Is it so?

Think about this and your network friends. What is missing from what you give to them – what you mean to them?

Same wave length?

Before the deadline September 30th I posted the Personal EU member application to the 3rd wave call of the European Network of Living Labs. Just 16 pages, but what a job! Now I can just wait and believe in wonders. Even if citizen-centricity is more and more in headlines and policies today, it’s a big step to launch it in daily life.

How would you like to organize your European union?

A very stupid question!?

Yes, stupid enough, I hope.

First of all: why should you organize your world? Because you are in the centre of it: the only one in the world who can live your life.

If you are a citizen of the European union, you could start with creating an own EU: by choosing the most similar person from each country in the union and then by doing the most essential common things with them. The internet makes it easy – when someone first creates a “Personal EU Team Finder” and some missing essential team tools.

This explanation was far too short to make you understand. But I hope it was long enough to make you interested.

Please be open-minded and come to the site www.personaleu.eu – and do not go away before you have browsed at least to ten pages there.  Free choice.
